Will’n in Weslaco is the Rio Grande Valley’s first and only annual Shakespeare festival.
Every spring, one play of the Immortal Bard is celebrated by Weslaco’s Tower Theatre, South Texas College, the Weslaco Museum, local businesses, and the good people of the City of Weslaco.
As a community event, Shakespeare is the perfect vehicle. Performances of his plays happily gather people together to publicly celebrate something profound and popular.
Shakespeare’s depth and breadth also allows for wide participation in various other arts and in a wide array of interdisciplinary scholastic activities. Deep and delightful, aristocratic and democratic, intelligent while inclusive, Shakespeare offers something for everyone.
More than four hundred years after publication, Shakespeare continues to be read, performed, studied, and celebrated across the arts not because he is old or traditional, but because he speaks beautifully and profoundly to the human condition. Shakespeare is admired across different times and cultures because his brilliance as a poet stems from his genius as a philosopher. Beautiful, true, and good, Shakespeare is enjoyed by all because he speaks to all.
All are welcome! For questions, please contact Bryan H. Smith [email protected] or call 1 (956) 447 – 6619.
